Emilie Davis Editing Professor

I am an adjunct professor in the Department of Newspaper and Online Journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University.

In the spring semester, I enjoy teaching the Advanced Editing course because we re-imagine it every year. The CNY Fair Housing project was this semester’s project.

My role was team partner with every editor in the class — to guide the direction of the project; ensure deadlines were met; keep everyone on task to edit content, create visuals, write headlines and cutlines, upload content; proof / polish the website; and, importantly, to create and execute the social media campaign.

My favorite room

I am a Syracuse native, and I grew up on the North Side, in the home my grandfather built. My favorite place in my home now, outside the city, is any room where the sun is shining. I love the light coming in, casting shadows and creating dancing leaves on the walls. Even in my childhood neighborhood, where the homes were close together, the sun always found its way inside.
